Threads launches AI tool “Dear Algo” for flexible feed customization

The social network Threads has introduced a new AI-based service called Dear Algo. It allows users to manage recommendations in their feed through simple text commands that last three days.

How it works
1. The user posts a message of the form *“Dear Algo …”*

2. In the message they specify which content should appear more or less often (for example, “show me more podcast posts”).

3. The algorithm automatically recognizes the request and adjusts the public post feed according to the preferences.

Thus, users can quickly switch interests: from watching a sports match to temporarily hiding topics related to TV show spoilers.

Public interaction
Requests are posted as ordinary posts. Therefore any subscriber sees them and can repost, applying the same filters to their own feed. Meta explains this as a way to turn personalization into a “collective experience,” helping people discover new discussion topics.

Market positioning
Dear Algo gives Threads an explicit advantage over competitors such as X and Bluesky, where preference settings are reduced to a single “Not interested” button. At present the feature is available in the United States, New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom; expansion to other countries is planned.

Key figures
The launch of the tool coincided with Similarweb data: the Threads mobile app has already surpassed X in daily active users. As of January 7, 2026, Threads had 141.5 million active users, while X had 125 million. Although the web version still favors X, the overall trend is shifting toward Meta’s platform.

Thus, Dear Algo enhances feed personalization and makes it more open to the community, while simultaneously demonstrating Threads’ growing popularity against competitors.
