Uber takes off: the Joby air taxi will appear in Dubai through a familiar app
Uber launches “flying taxi” service in Dubai
How it works
The Uber Air platform is a new module within the familiar Uber app.
Order
With one tap you can call an air taxi just like a regular car.
Routes
Flights are only possible between pre‑determined ports. This limitation makes the service convenient for short and medium distances but not suitable for free movement around the city.
Launch
Planned for the end of this year (2026).
Technology
- Piloted vehicle: Joby Aviation eVTOL electric aircraft with vertical takeoff and landing.
- Configuration: 4 passengers + pilot, 6 rotating propellers, panoramic windows.
- Speed / range: up to 320 km/h, about 160 km flight distance.
- Noise and safety: noise level is 100 times lower than a traditional helicopter; the backup system provides a high level of safety.
What it looks like for the user
1. In the Uber app you enter your destination.
2. If the route is suitable, an “Uber Air powered by Joby” option appears.
3. After confirmation, the app automatically arranges the entire journey: from an Uber Black ride to boarding the air taxi and disembarking at the destination.
Future plans
- Global expansion: after Dubai, the service is planned for New York, Los Angeles, the United Kingdom, Japan, and other megacities.
- Ecosystem: combining ground and air transport makes travel faster, greener, and more affordable.
Conclusion
Launching Uber Air in Dubai is not just a concept but the first practical step toward a new era of urban mobility, demonstrated with proven Joby technology and a reliable Uber platform.
