Ubisoft cut its team by 40 people working on the Splinter Cell remake and confirmed that the game will remain in its portfolio.
Ubisoft Toronto is cutting staff, but work on Splinter Cell continues
In January, Ubisoft announced a large-scale reorganization of the entire group, and the consequences have already affected the Canadian office in Toronto – the studio that is developing a remake of the cult stealth‑action Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell.
* Layoffs
According to MobileSyrup (citing an Ubisoft representative), about 40 employees will be laid off as part of the new wave of cuts, which amounts to roughly 8 % of Toronto studio staff. The company emphasized that this “does not reflect the talent, diligence or contribution of those affected” and promised comprehensive severance packages and employment support.
* Project continuation
The layoffs do not affect the development of the Splinter Cell remake. Ubisoft confirmed that the project remains active and in progress. No additional details are available yet, but the studio continues to co‑develop other projects, including Rainbow Six.
* Project history
The remake was officially announced in December 2021 under the direction of David Grivel. After leaving in the fall of 2022, he returned to the project at the end of 2025. Development is being carried out from scratch on the Snowdrop engine, which was used for games such as *Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora* and *Star Wars Outlaws*. The remake promises nonlinear locations and a fully reworked storyline adapted for modern audiences.
Thus, despite staff cuts, Ubisoft Toronto continues work on Splinter Cell while maintaining its key role in developing other studio projects.
