Valve Reveals Fresh Numbers on Steam and Future Plans

At the largest game developers’ event – GDC 2026, Valve presented a number of interesting statistical data regarding user activity, sales revenue, and company strategy.

Key Announced Metrics Activity In January, Steam simultaneously hosted a record 42 million users. Revenues Over the past year, 5,863 games generated more than $100,000 in total, and the overall number of new releases exceeded 19,000. Market Positioning Valve emphasizes that Steam is achieving more successful projects than ever, despite concerns about market saturation. Among the listed games is even “Counter‑Strike 2,” released before 2025.

“Daily Deals” Program Valve noted an increase in users who took advantage of this promotion:

* In total, 1,500 games entered the program.
* 69% of them had never previously participated in similar sales.
* Over the past year, 8.2 million Steam users purchased a game through “Daily Deal” – a 125% rise compared to the previous year.

Global Activity Map For geography enthusiasts, Valve showcased a world map displaying player distribution and hot spots of gaming activity.

Hardware Questions During the hardware session, company representatives humorously commented on the current component shortage:

> “At GDC 2026 we won’t announce new hardware if anyone doesn’t have RAM.”

Despite the jokes, materials still mentioned that Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller are planned for release in 2026. It seems the timelines remain unchanged, but the price may “surprise unpleasantly” – an exact figure has not yet been announced.

Thus, Valve demonstrates growth in its user base and revenue, actively promotes new games through daily deals, and simultaneously acknowledges supply chain challenges while maintaining plans to launch new devices within the next year.
