Valve announced the release of Steam Machine and Steam Frame this summer

In its statement, Valve added that developers can already begin preparing their games for the new platforms by publishing detailed information about verification programs.
Brief timeline
DateEventEnd of 2025 Valve announced Steam Machine, Steam Frame and Steam Controller, promising their release at the beginning of next year. February 2026 Due to a shortage of memory chips the company revised prices and delivery schedule. March 2026 Valve again stated that the devices would appear by the end of 2026. May 2026 The Steam Controller went on sale. Summer 2026 Release of Steam Machine and Steam Frame is expected (exact date not yet announced).
What changed in preparation for launch
1. Updated Steam Store
Valve redesigned the store interface to simplify searching for and downloading games compatible with the new devices.
2. Verification programs
- For Steam Machine the requirements will be almost identical to those applied to Steam Deck.
- Since the desktop PC is roughly six times more powerful than the portable console, there may be more games that pass verification.
- Valve conducts “on Machine” tests for all games that previously did not meet performance requirements on Deck.
3. Steam Frame
The *Valve Verified* label guarantees that a game will run in native headset mode without needing streaming (though this feature is still supported).
What remains unknown
- Exact dates and prices for Steam Machine and Steam Frame have not yet been disclosed.
- After the recent price increase of Steam Deck, users can expect similar changes to pricing on new devices.
> “We’re looking forward to seeing players try your games on the new Steam devices that will come out this summer,” — Valve concluded.
