Valve Announces Release of Steam Devices in 2024

At the end of last week, Valve published an article on its official blog that initially seemed to suggest it was abandoning plans to release the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller this year. Later, company representatives clarified the situation: all three products will indeed be released in 2024, despite memory supply issues.

What Was Stated in the Blog
- In the initial post, Valve said it planned to begin shipments in 2026. This appeared as a withdrawal from earlier promises.
- Previously, the company claimed that device releases would occur “in the first half” and even “in the first quarter of 2026.”
- Consequently, the blog entry was widely seen as another delay.

Official Clarification
- Casey Echison Boyle, Valve’s public‑relations spokesperson, confirmed that plans had not changed.
- The updated version of the blog post now states that all three products will be available in 2024.

Reasons for Delays
- During the initial announcement in November last year, Valve highlighted rising memory chip prices due to a shortage spurred by rapid AI development.
- Last month, the company reported that memory supply problems also affected the Steam Deck with an OLED screen, limiting its availability.

Thus, despite memory challenges, Valve remains confident in its schedule: the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller will hit the market this year.
