Valve will update the Steam homepage—it will become wider, more responsive, and more informative
Steam updates main window — new design now available in beta
Valve continues to modernize the interface of its digital platform Steam, and this time it concerns the very main page. Users can see changes in the desktop client’s test version.
What changed
Parameter Current state New state
Width Standard window width Increased to better use screen space
Responsiveness Limited adaptability Improved for various screen sizes
Images Low‑resolution game thumbnails High quality (HD), more vivid previews
Interface Duplicated elements and sometimes illogical structure More uniform look while preserving each section’s unique features
Goal of the update
Valve said the goal is to make game searching faster and easier. The new layout lets users see more content at once: categories, recommendations, new releases, and special offers are displayed in a more compact and understandable way.
> “We aim for a balance between interface uniformity and preserving each section’s individuality,” the development team noted.
How to join beta testing
1. Open the Steam client.
2. Go to Settings → Interface.
3. In the “Beta participation” section enable the option for client updates and the new main page design.
After activation, the client will automatically download the latest version where you can test the changes and leave feedback.
Results
The new look of Steam’s main page makes navigation more intuitive, improves the visual presentation of games, and boosts overall interface performance. Valve continues to work on further improvements, relying on analytics data and user feedback.
