Volkswagen Announces Large-Scale Electric Vehicle Recall

Electrek reports that Volkswagen is forced to conduct a large-scale recall covering 94,031 electric cars worldwide.

The issue lies with traction battery defects:

* reduced range on a single charge;
* increased risk of ignition – a more dangerous situation.

To address the defect, the company is ready not only to release software updates but also to replace components of the high-voltage on‑board network.

Recall Specifics in the U.S.
* Volkswagen has already announced a recall of 43 881 electric ID.4 cars manufactured between 2023 and 2025.
* American vehicles have been found to have a risk of overheating that could lead to battery fire.

In most cases, the defect will be fixed with a software update; in more complex cases – through warranty repair.

Consequences for the Manufacturer
Volkswagen, the world’s second‑largest automaker, faces several problems:

1. Declining demand for electric vehicles.
2. Intense competition, especially in the Chinese market.

Large recall campaigns inevitably result in significant costs and can damage reputation.
