Warner Bros Games announced the release date for the sequel to “Hogwarts Legacy”
Post-suffixation period at Warner Bros. Games: from failure to restructuring
After the cooperative shooter *Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League* failed to meet expectations early in 2024, publisher Warner Bros. Games (WB Games) had almost no high-profile releases. But the situation is changing quickly.
1. Key events of 2025
- Project cancellation – the action game *Wonder Woman* was cancelled.
- Studio closures – three companies, including Monolith Productions, ceased operations.
- Restructuring – the company focused on four “core” franchises: *Game of Thrones*, *Harry Potter*, DC‑Universe and *Mortal Kombat*.
In a Variety interview, WB Games CEO Jean-Briac Perré called 2025 the “reset year,” noting that the previous strategy of many simultaneous projects proved ineffective.
2. Plans for the coming years
- 2026 – expected releases include *Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight* (May 29) and a mobile version of *Game of Thrones: Dragonfire*.
- 2027‑2028 – “real fruits” of the effort, according to Perré, will appear when the company returns to one of its largest franchises.
Perré did not specify particular projects, but it is logical to assume he refers to the sequel to *Hogwarts Legacy*, confirmed at the end of 2024—a fantasy action RPG with an open world.
3. WB Games priorities
- *Hogwarts Legacy 2* – the main priority for the next two years, closely tied to HBO’s upcoming *Harry Potter* series (premiere expected early 2027).
- Content synergy: the game and the series will complement each other, boosting interest in the franchise.
4. Issues with “Suicide Squad”
Rocksteady, which released *Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League*, has reportedly begun work on a new single-player Batman project according to Bloomberg. However, release dates remain uncertain; it is expected that the launch will not happen soon.
In short: after the 2024 fiasco WB Games carried out a large-scale restructuring, concentrating resources on proven franchises. Small releases are planned for 2026, and the real “win” should come in 2027‑2028 when the company returns to one of its biggest brands.
