WhatsApp is developing a paid service with more flexible customization and unique stickers.
WhatsApp is developing a premium plan
The team behind the messaging app WhatsApp is working on a new subscription that is currently being called WhatsApp Plus. According to WABetaInfo, the project is in development; the exact launch date and pricing have not yet been announced.
What “Plus” promises
- New visual settings – 14 new app icons, custom color accents, and themes to change the interface look.
- Increased pinned chat limit – from 3 to 20.
- Exclusive content – ringtones and sticker packs unavailable to regular users.
WABetaInfo notes that additional features may appear later.
How it will affect the free version
Launching a paid plan will not alter the capabilities of free users: messages, calls, media sharing, and all privacy tools will remain available without payment. WhatsApp Plus will simply be an optional add‑on with enhanced features.
WhatsApp’s monetization history
Android Police adds an interesting fact: initially WhatsApp was a paid platform, later shifting to a free model. Now Meta, the owner of the app, is changing strategy and introducing a subscription to monetize the service through premium features that may appeal to more advanced users.
Potential success
According to Android Police, a paid subscription could attract a significant audience if the company offers the right set of features. It is expected that this is how Meta plans to expand WhatsApp’s monetization in the near future.
