Xpeng plans mass production of “flying” cars and humanoid robots

Chinese automaker Xpeng announced that it will begin large-scale production of flying cars in 2025. At the same time, the company plans to launch humanoid robots on the market by the end of this year (Q4). Reuters provided this information based on statements from Xpeng President Brian Gu.

Collaboration with Volkswagen
The head of Xpeng emphasizes the huge potential for collaboration with German automaker Volkswagen. In March of this year, VW launched serial production of its first electric vehicle developed in partnership with a Chinese partner. At present, Xpeng has already received more than 7,000 orders for flying cars; most of them came from China, where the company is currently undergoing the process of obtaining aviation permits.

Robot taxis and their launch
2024 – robot taxi trials will begin in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou.
* 2027 – according to Brian Gu, this will be a “critical” year for global tests with partners.

In the next year or so, Xpeng plans to release from several hundred to several thousand units of robot taxis.

Role of humanoid robots
At the initial stage, robots will serve as administrators and salespeople interacting with customers. According to the president’s forecast, within the next 10–20 years the robotics sector will surpass vehicle manufacturing, because “there will be more applications for humanoid robots in our lives.”

Global expansion
Xpeng is already present in roughly 60 countries. Last year foreign markets accounted for about 10 % of sales volume and 15 % of company revenue. The plan is that within the next 5–10 years, over half (more than 50 %) of revenue should come from outside China.
