Apple confirmed that there is advertising in Maps and said it will not track users' locations.
Apple launches advertising in the “Maps” app
Apple announced that ads will soon appear in its navigation service—Apple Maps. New advertisements will be available this summer for iPhone and iPad owners located in the United States and Canada.
Where ads will be visible
Search results: when searching for places and routes, users will see ad cards.
- New “Recommended Places” section: a separate heading will appear where business offers are displayed.
How the system works
Apple uses three key factors to show ads:
1. Relevance to the current search query.
2. Trends and popular directions in a specific location.
3. User activity history within the app.
All commercial offers will be marked with “Ad”.
Privacy
According to Apple, advertising is “not tied to an Apple ID.”
- Local data and interaction information remain on the user’s device.
- This information is not collected, stored in Apple Ads, or shared with third parties.
> “Maps with ads are as private as Maps without ads. Your movements and the ads you see and interact with are not linked to your Apple ID. Personal data stays on your device, is not collected, stored in Apple Ads, or passed to third parties.” – Apple representatives said.
How businesses can participate
To run ad campaigns, companies can use the Apple Business platform—a dedicated tool for setting targeting and managing ads within “Maps”.
