DuckDuckGo introduced the AI bot Duck.ai, capable of changing images according to a text request
DuckDuckGo expands the capabilities of its private AI bot Duck.ai
At the end of 2023, the company launched a feature in Duck.ai that generates images from text descriptions. Developers have now announced the addition of a new option – editing images via neural network requests.
How it works
* Launching the editor
A user can open the editor by clicking the “New image” button in the chat‑bot’s sidebar menu, or simply by dragging a file (JPEG, JPG, PNG, or WebP) into the query field.
* Specifying changes
After uploading an image, the user describes the desired edits: color correction, object removal, adding elements, etc. The rest is handled by the AI service based on the OpenAI model.
Privacy
* Metadata deletion
Before sending a request to OpenAI from Duck.ai, all metadata of the image and the user’s IP address are automatically stripped away.
* Local storage
Uploaded files are stored only on the device, ensuring a high level of privacy.
Availability and limits
* The new feature is free and does not require registration.
* Users with a subscription receive expanded daily quotas for generating and editing images.
Separate platform from the search engine
Duck.ai is an independent service separate from DuckDuckGo’s main search function. For those who do not want AI features, a clean search engine is available at noai.duckduckgo.com.
A recent survey showed that most users prefer to keep AI options “optional.” The company emphasizes that all new features remain optional and continue to support its focus on privacy.
