DuckDuckGo launches voice chat for its AI bot Duck.ai

The company announced the launch of a new feature — the ability to talk to the Duck.ai chatbot by voice in real time. A secure connection is used for communication, allowing users to speak directly and receive responses from the model without storing audio.

Who provides speech recognition?

Voice requests are processed by OpenAI, but neither DuckDuckGo nor the provider store recordings after a conversation ends. In an official statement it was emphasized: “Voice chats in Duck.ai are private, anonymous, and never used for training AI.”

How are audio data protected?

* Recordings are transmitted only during the session and deleted immediately afterward.
* Audio is encrypted during transmission via WebRTC and on DuckDuckGo’s servers.
* Neither party stores conversation data, and the information is not used to train models.

Where does the feature work?

Voice chat is available in most browsers; Firefox support is still under development.

Cost and limits

The feature is free up to a daily limit and requires no registration. Paid subscribers ($10/month) receive extended limits, VPN access, deletion of personal data, and other benefits.

Users can disable voice chat in Duck.ai settings and continue using text bots based on OpenAI, Meta✴, Anthropic, and Mistral models.
