For those who want to kill—play Sons of the Forest: the developers of Subnautica 2 refuse to introduce revenge, but modders are already working on it
Subnautica 2: How the Game Changes Survival Rules
*Underwater simulator* Subnautica 2 was released in early access only recently, but developers from Unknown Worlds Entertainment (which is owned by Krafton) have already made it clear what they do not expect from the game.
1. No Killing
Although the game falls under the survival genre, players are prohibited from killing marine creatures – even if doing so could increase their chances of survival. Many users expressed dissatisfaction with this restriction. As *GamesRadar* noted, level designer Artyom O’Rielly reacted sharply to requests to add killings: “Our game is not about killing. If you want to kill, go to Sons of the Forest or something similar.”
2. The Essence of the Concept
Developers emphasize that the player is not a “colonist‑conqueror” who seeks to subjugate the planet to their will. The goal is to learn how to live in harmony with surrounding beings, rather than trying to conquer them.
3. Defensive Tools
The game provides means of defense against aggressive marine inhabitants:
- A signal rocket distracts predators;
- A resource‑gathering tool, when upgraded, can directly repel aggressors.
4. “Killable Creatures” Mod
For those who still want to add the ability to kill creatures in the game, modder *jibotron* released the “Killable Creatures” mod. In it, the multitool deals 20 damage points, and the sonic resonator – 50.
5. Early Access and Audience Reaction
Early access for Subnautica 2 began on May 14:
- On PC (Steam, EGS, Microsoft Store);
- On Xbox Series X/S;
- Through Game Pass.
The game received “very positive” reviews on Steam (rating 92 %) and already sold over 2 million copies in the first 12 hours.
