Google launches branching dialogues in Gemini

According to the latest test of Google 17.10.54.sa.arm64 app version, developers are already working on a new Gemini chatbot feature that will allow users to split one conversation into several independent branches and continue them from the same point. This capability is already available in ChatGPT.

How it works

After receiving an answer from Gemini, the user can click the “three dots” button below the message and select “Branch in new chat.” The system opens a separate chat where the initial content will be the selected fragment of the original dialogue. The new stream is marked with the label *Branch:* for easy distinction from the original.

Thus you can simultaneously explore several variations of questions or compare answers without losing the original context.

Benefits of branching

- Experimentation: easily switch between different scenarios without restarting the entire conversation.

- Control over the dialogue: in complex discussions one chain of messages often leads to AI confusion; separate branches keep each stream focused.

- Comparing answers: convenient to see how the bot responds to different formulations of the same request.

Current status

The feature is not yet officially launched and requires minor tweaks, but it already looks functional. Google previously tried a similar idea in AI Studio; now it’s available to a wide audience through the Gemini app. There has been no official announcement of full deployment yet, but given prior experience, its appearance can be expected soon.
