Google is testing a feature to import dialogues into Gemini

Users who frequently switch between chatbots from different companies have to manually transfer their entire conversation history, settings, and personal preferences. To simplify this process, Google has begun testing a new tool that allows users to “transfer” conversations from other AI chats into its own Gemini service.

What the new feature does
* Importing AI chats – currently in beta testing and available only to a limited number of Gemini users.
* To start, the user clicks the “+” button in the chatbot’s main menu (the button usually used for adding images). In the opened menu, a new option “Import AI Chats” appears.

How it works
1. The user selects the import option.
2. A message appears indicating that conversation history from the chosen platform (e.g., ChatGPT or Claude) will be uploaded.
3. After confirmation, Google downloads data from the external service and saves it in Gemini as regular user activity.

What is still unknown
* Supported formats – precise information about which file types can be imported (JSON, CSV, text logs, etc.) has not been disclosed yet.
* List of compatible platforms – the description only mentions importing from ChatGPT and Claude, but officially it’s unclear whether other services will be supported.
* Reverse import – it is unknown whether Google will allow exporting dialogues from Gemini back to third‑party chatbots.

Potential consequences
If major AI platforms follow Google's example and open data exchange between their systems, it could greatly simplify users’ lives. They would be able to transfer all conversation history and settings without manual copying, and new bot algorithms would immediately have access to more complete data about their clients.

In short: Google is testing a dialogue transfer tool for Gemini that is still in beta and limited in availability. The feature is expected to let users quickly integrate past conversations from other chatbots, but details on file formats, supported platforms, and reverse export remain undisclosed.
