Google is preparing a mass rollout of an AirDrop-like file sharing feature on Android

According to recent statements, in 2026 the Quick Share compatibility with Apple‑AirDrop will be available not only on Pixel 10 but also on a significant number of Android devices.

What was announced by the manager
Eric Kay, vice president of engineering development for the Android platform, reported this during a press briefing at Google's Taipei office. After successfully testing the technology on Pixel, the company began working with partners to spread it across the entire Android ecosystem.

> “Last year we launched AirDrop compatibility. In 2026 we will expand it to many more devices,” Kay emphasized.

He noted that Google originally considered supporting not only iPhone but also iPad and MacBook; now, having confirmed the solution’s reliability, plans to scale it further. Official announcements won’t be long in coming.

As already evident from the expansion
Early signs showed that Quick Share is no longer exclusive to Pixel:

* Google turned the system feature into a full app with its own page on Google Play;
* This signals that the feature will work on other devices.

Other activity
At present, the only company officially confirming work on Quick Share + AirDrop support remains Nothing. Qualcomm recently hinted at plans to implement similar functionality in smartphones with Snapdragon chips.

Plan to ease cross‑platform transition
In addition to file sharing, Google is developing new data migration tools to simplify transferring information when switching devices. Earlier both companies had already confirmed joint efforts toward a more convenient mechanism for moving from iPhone to Android—another step toward reducing the “ecosystem lock‑in” effect.

Thus, in 2026 a mass rollout of AirDrop-like file sharing on Android devices is expected, along with new solutions to simplify users’ transitions between platforms.
