Google will switch to releasing Chrome updates every two weeks.
Google will Accelerate Chrome Update Releases
At the end of this year, Google announced a shift to a faster release cadence for its browser—major updates will appear every two weeks on all platforms. The goal of this strategy is rapid access for users and developers to new features.
Year Frequency of Major Updates Add-ons 2021 10/1 → 10/2, once every four weeks – 2023 Weekly security patches – Now Transition to a bi‑weekly cycle Support for weekly security updates
What Google Says
> “Our goal is to provide quick access to performance improvements, fixes, and new features. Given the continuous evolution of the web platform, Chrome will now be released every two weeks,” the developers said.
The company also noted that more compact updates will help “reduce the likelihood of failures and simplify debugging after release.” The new processes ensure a high level of browser stability.
When the New Schedule Starts
* The first release in the new cycle is Chrome 153, scheduled for September 8.
* Weekly security updates will remain unchanged.
* Updates will affect all desktop platforms, Android, and iOS.
* No changes will occur on the Dev and Canary channels.
* Beta versions will be released three weeks before the stable release.
* The Extended Stable schedule (for enterprise customers and Chromium developers) remains the same: updates every eight weeks.
Thus, from September onward Chrome will receive new major releases faster while maintaining its familiar level of security and support.
