How the developers of the “Gothic” remake embodied authenticity and detail to bring the game's world and characters to life
THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive release the fifth “behind‑the‑scenes” video for the Gothic remake
Publisher THQ Nordic, together with Barcelona studio Alkimia Interactive, shared another piece of content about creating a remaster of the cult fantasy RPG “Gothic” (Gothic), originally developed by Piranha Bytes. The new 13‑minute episode is available on YouTube and comes with Russian subtitles.
What’s new in this episode
- Visual update
Alkimia lead, Reinhard Pollich, explains that the team focused primarily on capturing the atmosphere of the original game when working on the remake. Updated locations and characters now have a more detailed and authentic look.
- Expanded armor system
In addition to classic light, medium, and heavy armor, players in the new project can not only change the appearance of their gear but also tweak its attributes to suit their play style.
- Cinematic camera for dialogues
For conversations with NPCs Alkimia introduces a new camera that makes every exchange of lines feel more vivid and personal—whether it’s a grumpy guard, a suspicious merchant, or a key story character.
Release date announcement
At the end of the video, developers clearly hinted at an upcoming release date: “Release date? Soon. We’re serious. Hang in there a little longer.” This confirms expectations for the remake to launch in Q1 2026.
Platforms and availability
- PC – Steam, GOG
- Consoles – PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
The latest “development diary,” released in mid‑December, already covered details of the story development. Now the focus has shifted to visual and mechanical refinements that modernize the game while preserving its classic spirit.
