Microsoft fixed a bug in Windows 11 that caused computers to go to sleep on their own and quickly drain the battery.
Microsoft fixes Modern Standby issues in Windows 11
What happened
The Microsoft company announced that in new versions of Windows 11 (starting with the 24H2 update and later) bugs causing background processes to trigger premature wake‑ups from Modern Standby sleep mode have been resolved.
As a result, two main problems disappeared:
* excessive battery drain on laptops;
* unintended exit of PCs from standby mode.
How Modern Standby works
Modern Standby is a “smartphone‑like” idle state implemented in all new Windows 11 devices. When activated, the system enters a low‑power mode similar to locking the screen on mobile phones.
Why users complained
On forums (e.g., Reddit) there were many posts about Modern Standby “devouring” laptop batteries. While some claims were exaggerated, the real cause was background processes that occasionally forced the computer to wake from deep sleep, thereby draining the battery.
What Microsoft did
The support page that appeared last year noted that Windows 11 24H2 and newer versions include protective mechanisms. They prevent:
* excessive battery drain during Modern Standby;
* spontaneous wake‑ups from sleep – this can only happen with explicit user actions (pressing the power button, opening a laptop lid).
What users need to do
No additional patches are required. All necessary fixes are already integrated into the 24H2 update and all subsequent OS releases. After installing the current system, issues with power consumption and unexpected wake‑ups will no longer occur.
