Microsoft “Copilot” is not a single product but an entire ecosystem

AI consultant Ty Bannerman compiled more than 80 Microsoft offerings under the name *Copilot* into one diagram and concluded that the actual number of solutions probably exceeds a hundred. Under this brand, the company promotes not only individual applications but also features, platforms, a keyboard key, a category of laptops, and tools for creating new Copilots. In other words, one brand already denotes a heterogeneous lineup of solutions.

Bannerman, who works in AI strategy, design, and implementation, began his analysis after being asked what Microsoft Copilot actually is. According to him, the name has been used in at least 75 different meanings and contexts. The initial diagram had 78 items; later their number increased to 80 after adding *Gaming Copilot* and *Microsoft Dragon Copilot*.

The count was complicated by the fact that Microsoft apparently does not maintain a single definitive list of all solutions under the Copilot brand. An additional query to the Copilot service itself provided a more accurate picture: it reported that, taking into account versions embedded in applications, enterprise solutions, and tools linked to Azure, the ecosystem comprises well over 100 products. After a follow‑up request, Copilot gave a range of roughly 95 to more than 120 solutions.

The practical effect of this expansion has already manifested itself in Windows. Recently, two Copilot apps appeared simultaneously in the notification area: one opened a standard AI assistant dialog window, while the other—*Copilot 365*—required signing in with a Microsoft 365 account when clicked. Later that app was removed.

Thus, the promised significant performance and reliability improvements for Windows 11, as well as a reduction in interactions with Copilot, appear to be long overdue measures to manage the growing ecosystem under one brand.
