Microsoft has introduced the AI agent Copilot into Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and made it available to all Microsoft 365 subscribers.

Microsoft makes Copilot publicly available in Microsoft 365

The software giant announced that its AI assistant *Copilot* is now accessible to all users of the Microsoft 365 suite. The agent can perform complex actions in Word, Excel and PowerPoint while leaving full control over the process to the user.

How Copilot’s work has changed
- Early versions: When Copilot first appeared, the models underlying it were not yet powerful enough to manage applications. The agent could only answer questions but could not change anything.

- New status: Over the past year AI technologies have advanced significantly. Now Copilot can make multi-step edits based on user intent. It understands the structure of Excel pivot tables, can use animation in PowerPoint and insert quotes into Word.

User control
- The user can review all changes, select the ones they want, and see how their preferences for structure, style and branding are taken into account.

- The *Work IQ* mechanism helps Copilot better understand task context, generate higher-quality content and conduct data analysis.

Technological foundation
- Copilot is built on a set of specialized AI models that can be chosen manually depending on the specific task.

- Microsoft aimed to preserve a unified user experience in Word, Excel and PowerPoint while emphasizing each application’s unique features.

Development plans
1. Expand functionality – add new capabilities to Copilot.
