Google is gradually replacing Assistant with Gemini—now even for Android Go

Google continues its transition from the outdated Assistant to the new, more advanced AI model Gemini. The company recently announced that the update will also affect the lightweight version of the mobile platform Android Go, where Gemini Go will soon replace the current Assistant Go.

What is Gemini Go?
- It is a simplified version of the full Gemini, specifically optimized for smartphones with limited resources.
- Minimum requirements: just 2 GB RAM—meaning even budget Android Go devices can run it without needing to switch to the web version.

How and when it will be available
- Google isn’t rushing to release Gemini Go immediately for all devices.
- The update will roll out gradually, within the existing Google Search app.
- To check for an update, open “Google Search” in Play‑Market and see if a “Update” button appears. If so, the lightweight version of Gemini will be installed alongside it.
