Roblox is developing a new “AI rendering” technology

The company announced work on a fundamental shift of its gaming platform. At its core will be an AI world model that partially handles rendering: texture drawing, lighting, motion and surrounding objects with high detail based on existing game data. According to developers from VideoCardz, this can be compared to Nvidia’s DLSS 5 scaling technology – they even dubbed Roblox’s solution “DLSS 5 at home”.

What is Roblox Reality?
* A hybrid system – a combination of a cloud gaming engine and video world models (Video World Models) in an infrastructure close to the user.

* The cloud engine handles:
* game state,
* player positions,
* interactions between them,
* physics and synchronization.

* An AI layer on top of basic rendering generates a higher‑quality visual layer, adding detail and improving graphics.

Current status
The lab version of the engine currently lacks real time. Roblox aims to reach 2 K resolution at 60 frames per second. To achieve this it will need to connect to the nearest data center with Nvidia H200 or B200 accelerators.

AI model limitations
* Difficulties preserving user settings and game rules.
* Insufficient long‑term memory.
* Limited simulation of user mode.

In the end, core gameplay will still be provided by Roblox’s traditional engine, while AI handles only visual elements.

Comparison to DLSS 5
From a capabilities standpoint, comparing “Roblox Reality” to Nvidia DLSS 5 in favor of the latter appears justified. DLSS 5 already provides real‑time rendering and could reach a wide audience this year, whereas Roblox is still in development and testing.
