Sony is preparing an animated adaptation of Blood borne

Sony has not yet announced a remake, remaster or sequel to the cult gothic action game from FromSoftware, but there are already new plans within the franchise.

At CinemaCon 2026, Sony Pictures announced the creation of an animated film based on Blood borne. The film will be rated R and aimed at viewers over 17 years old.

According to Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group president Sanford Panich, the adaptation is “very close” in spirit to the original game.

The project is being produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation, and well-known Irish blogger Sean McLoughlin (Jacksepticeye). Funding comes from Sony Pictures itself and Lyrical Media, the parent company of Lyrical Animation. Details about the adaptation—release dates, storyline, and more—have not yet been disclosed.

The film’s events take place in the bleak city of Yharnam, where residents suffer a mysterious disease that turns them into horrific monsters. Player‑hunters must battle grotesque beasts and uncover the secrets of this place.

Blood borne debuted in March 2015 on PS4, immediately received high critical acclaim (92% on Metacritic), and over time became a cult game. Sales data show more than 7.46 million copies have been sold.
