Sony is shutting down Bluepoint Games, known for remakes of *Shadow of the Colossus* and *Demon’s Souls*

*Bluepoint Games* is an American company from Austin founded in 2006 that became iconic thanks to high‑quality remasters of titles such as *God of War*, *Metal Gear Solid*, and *Uncharted*, as well as its own remakes of *Shadow of the Colossus* and *Demon’s Souls*.

In September 2021, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) acquired the studio. After the purchase Bluepoint did not release new games but participated in the development of *God of War: Ragnarok* and worked on a service for *God of War*, which was cancelled in January this year.

Why the closure? PlayStation Studios head Herman Hulst stated that the decision to close “was not easy” and was made amid a difficult situation in the gaming industry. After a thorough analysis of SIE’s business structure, they concluded that Bluepoint’s continued existence was impractical.

> “Bluepoint is an incredibly talented team whose technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences to the PlayStation community. I want to thank everyone at Bluepoint for their creativity, craftsmanship, and commitment to quality,” Hulst said in a message to employees.

What next? The studio will close in March this year. According to Bloomberg, about 70 employees will be laid off. Sony plans to seek new positions for them within its own structure if possible.

Despite the split with Bluepoint, Hulst expressed confidence in PlayStation Studios’ strategy:

> “Creativity, innovation, and creating unforgettable experiences for players remain at the core of PlayStation Studios. We have a clear plan for fiscal year 2026 and plenty of reasons to be optimistic.”

Thus, the end of Bluepoint’s operations does not mean the end of their contribution to the industry: talented specialists will seek new opportunities within Sony, and the studio will remain in history as one of the leaders in creating high‑class remasters and remakes.
