T-Mobile will implement AI real-time call translation in more than 50 languages without requiring third-party apps.
T‑Mobile is preparing real‑time AI call translation
Cellular operator T‑Mobile announced the launch of a new feature called “Real‑Time Translation,” which will translate phone conversations into more than 50 languages without delays. Beta testing is scheduled for spring, and registration for participants is already open.
> “One of the biggest obstacles for mobile users is mutual understanding,” said T‑Mobile CEO Shrinivasan Gopal. “We’re embedding artificial intelligence directly into the network to offer not just connectivity but full interaction.”
How the service will work
* No need to install third‑party apps – translation starts directly from the operator’s network.
* The user initiates the function; it activates only during the call and stops after the conversation ends.
* T‑Mobile does not collect recordings or transcripts of conversations, thereby ensuring privacy.
Supported technologies
* Translation is available on both 5G and 4G networks.
* A key component is Voice over LTE (VoLTE), which guarantees stable operation on most devices and in various network conditions.
* VoNR/Vo5G (voice over 5G) and VoWiFi (voice over Wi‑Fi) are also supported.
Beta testing
Participants in the beta program can use the translation as much as they wish without additional payment. It has not yet been disclosed whether the service will become paid after its official launch to a wider audience.
Thus, T‑Mobile aims to turn an ordinary phone call into multilingual communication with no effort from users and with guaranteed privacy.
