Take‑Two Interactive applies generative AI across all divisions

The head of Take‑Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick, told GamesIndustry.biz about the scale of implementing generative artificial intelligence in the company and clarified the long‑awaited criminal series GTA VI from Rockstar Games.

Generative AI as a “permanent” element at Take‑Two
- Historical approach – Zelnick emphasized that “Take‑Two has always been a leader in AI.” Every product of the company was developed using machine learning and artificial intelligence.

- Pilot projects – Currently, Take‑Two has hundreds of pilot initiatives across the organization, including all studios. Generative AI tools already help save resources and accelerate workflows.

Creativity versus procedural generation
Zelnick noted that neural networks are “a good tool for creativity,” but he does not see them playing a role in creating GTA VI:

> “Generative AI is not involved at all in Rockstar’s work on GTA VI. Their worlds are built manually – building by building, street by street, district by district. That is exactly what distinguishes good entertainment content from procedurally generated material.”

He also stressed that generative AI “looks to the past” and relies only on existing data, so it will never be able to independently create a full GTA VI.

Brief facts about the upcoming game

Thus, Take‑Two actively uses AI to optimize development, but remains faithful to a traditional manual approach for creating game worlds at Rockstar Games.
