The creator of Kingdom Come: Deliverance has abandoned game development and moved on to making films about Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Short news
*Director‑screenwriter Daniel Vavra, known as the creator of Kingdom Come: Deliverance and its sequels, has temporarily left game development at Warhorse Studios.*
What’s happening
- Vavra’s new assignment
CEO Martin Frývaldský told CzechCrunch that Vavra is now working on a film adaptation of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. He is responsible for the screenplay and already has a draft ready.
- Adaptation format
The format hasn’t been decided yet – it could be either a feature film or a series. Warhorse intends to keep creative control and does not plan to simply sell the rights.
- Negotiations with partners
The studio is already in talks with potential film partners; “we feel industry interest” says Frývaldský.
Why Vavra left development
- No disagreements
Frývaldský stresses that the departure isn’t due to conflicts. Dan has successfully finished three world‑class games (Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven and two KCD titles) and has long wanted to try his hand in another field.
Team changes
- New creative leaders
Two new leaders have taken his place: Prokop Jirsa – lead designer at Warhorse, and Viktor Bocan – design director.
What’s next for Warhorse
- Completed storyline
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and all its expansions finished the story of Indržih from Skalitca.
- Future RPG
Rumors say the studio’s next major game will be fantasy‑based.
Thus, Daniel Vavra will focus on the adaptation, while Warhorse’s team continues work on a new RPG series in a different genre.
